What Are Hormone Pellets?
Pellets are tiny hormone implants that have become a popular method for delivering hormones to both women and men as part of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). These hormone pellets have been used successfully since 1938 in the United States, Europe, and Australia. They contain testosterone, which is derived from natural plant sources and is chemically identical to the hormones our bodies naturally produce. Compounded by specialized pharmacies, these pellets can be customized to meet each patient's specific needs. Once inserted, the pellets release hormones in a sustained and continuous manner, providing consistent levels for about 4 to 6 months in men. The pellets gradually dissolve on their own and do not require removal.
How Are Pellets Inserted?
The insertion of bioidentical hormone pellets is a painless procedure performed in the clinic under local anesthesia. Using a small incision in the skin, each pellet, slightly larger than a grain of rice, is placed into fatty tissue, typically in the upper flank area. The incision is then closed with a Steri-Strip bandage. The entire procedure usually takes about 10 minutes.
How Soon Will You Feel the Benefits?
Many patients begin to experience relief from their symptoms within 7-10 days after pellet insertion. However, it may take up to 2-3 weeks for others to notice a significant improvement. The benefits of hormone therapy with pellets can vary from person to person, but the gradual release of hormones helps maintain consistent levels in the body, leading to symptom relief and overall well-being.
